ReplyDeleteThis movie is playing from Friday in about 20 theaters around London. So I am guessing it has not been in the Dutch theaters yet. Looks like you get to see on a full screen after all.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I will be able to convince Catherine to visit this one in the theater. I am already pushing it by dragging her to see the Swedish movie 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' tonight.

I didn't like it. At all.
ReplyDeleteBut I love the book. Maybe that's why I didn't like it.
To be sure, the visuals are *excellent*, it's just the characters and story that I didn't like. I walked out on it... when I had it at home on DVD. My wife sat through all of it with her mother, and neither said that it got any better.
Maybe I need to go back and read the book again to clear the haze.
If you do wind up liking it (or not), I'm curious as to why. Maybe I'm just not watching it right.

I find it itneresting that you didn't like it. I love the book as well, I have all but two of those big figurines that came out late nineties/early noughties (missing Max & Goatboy) on my bookcase.
I was very impressed with how close the visuals (in the trailer) are to the book. Story wise the hints in the book appear to match, though match is a big word here as the original story fits on a single A4 or letter sized page. Which would make it ideal for a Hollywood blockbuster I think :-)
Seriously, I kinda expect the story, both the human side and the Monster side, to be different/more in the movie, so I should be somewhat buffered from disappointment that way.
Also I'm hoping that after 25 years of seeing nearly every book I love(d) being massacred by Hollywood by tender soul has gotten enough calloused (sp?) enough to bear the brunt of it.
Then again, this does call back to my inner toddler who was a lot less calloused. We'll see. It's a shame you didn't like it. I'm glad to hear it's not because the film actually sucks as I pre-ordered the DVD so my mom can see it.
